Fly 2019

In March 2019 I was commissioned to work collaboratively on ‘Culture lab’  with biological researcher Jordan Balaban at The University of Leeds. I spent time in the Lab with Jordan who was researching fly muscles and he a spent time in my workshop building a mechanical model. The resulting work was a series of experimental mechanisms which were presented at the symposium at the end of the project.  The fly I built uses a very fast micro motor and beats it’s wings at almost 1300 rpm which is definitely the fastest machine I have made. Jordan was able to film it and accurately measure the speed using his equipment.
