Blink 2009
‘Blink’ was made for the Kinetica Museum exhibition ‘Creatures great and small’ at Rove, London and the second edition was made for A22 Gallery, Budapest. Removed from its human context and housed within a copper eyeball the artificial eye becomes the organic element of the machine.
“Kinetic sculptures like these combine atonishing artistry with a moral message: the serious intent is sugared with the seductive power of playful engineering, the carefully planned movements of each mechanism are constantly subverted and ambushed by apparently contradictory components. Blink juxtaposes an obviously artificial eyeball with a disturbingly living eye. Who is watching whom ?” Simon Schaffer - Professor of the History and Philosophy of Science at The University of Cambridge
